2016 Annual Conference - Speakers

The Power of Trust for the Healthcare Professional

Bruce Lee, International Event Speaker, Coach, MC and Author

Abstract

The feeling of trust at all levels, is the most important attribute any organization or person can have these days. With it, you accelerate employee engagement, increase productivity, improve retention of the good employees, support the patient experience, raise customer loyalty and enhance your community reputation. Employees who embrace the characteristics of trust, make a profound difference for their co-workers and the patients who experience it. A great workplace culture has more to do with the little things that increase employee retention than almost anything else. When the employee feels trusted, are seen as a valuable part of high performance team, know they make a recognizable contribution to the organization, you create that motivational workplace culture of caring. Trust = engagement = speed = productivity = profitability

Leveraging Pay Practices to Increase Retention…w/in your Budget

Stephen Werling, President Werling Associates, Inc.

Abstract

The improving economy coupled with the expanding healthcare market will increase the demand for skilled employees, especially in clinical areas, over the next several years. As in the past, the market changes will lead to an increase in wages and higher turnover. The higher wages will in turn cause upward pressure on budgets at a time where there is decreased funding from various funding sources. The seminar will evaluate the ability of the current pay practices to address the conflicting market and budgetary forces. The seminar will also provide specific recommendations and practices to address these conflicting forces.

Speaker Bios

Jay Johnson is Owner and President of the J2 Leadership Team. He is a motivational speaker, trainer, consultant, and coach, who is passionate about helping businesses, teams and individuals achieve extraordinary results in their professional and personal lives. Jay grew up in Oklahoma where he and his sisters were raised by their father after a tragic accident claimed the life of their mother when he was six years old. Jay readily admits “I was a pretty lost soul growing up and I aspired to do just enough to get by without truly applying myself.”

This all changed when Jay made a decision that he says “defies explanation…I joined the United States Air Force (USAF) despite saying I would never join the military.” He entered active duty in December 1986 and credits some amazing leaders for helping him focus and tap into his full potential.

In 1997, at the prompting of his Squadron Commander, who to this day Jay calls “the most amazing leader I’ve ever worked for”, he separated from the USAF and enrolled in the Air Force ROTC program at the University of North Texas. Jay graduated Cum Laude in 1999 and returned to active duty as an officer. During his time on active duty, he served as a formal trainer, recruiter, and human resource manager, with duties that included process improvement, contingency and strategic planning, and change management. Jay served in the Middle East where he was responsible for the accountability of Air Force personnel in the theater of operations to include casualty reporting. Jay retired from military service at Randolph Air Force Base (AFB), Texas in August 2010, in the position of Squadron Section Commander for a 3,000 plus member organization where he was responsible for employee training, policy enforcement, awards and recognition, and adherence to standards. Although retired from active duty, he chose to continue serving his country as a civil servant for the Department of Defense.

As a civil servant Jay worked for Headquarters Air Education and Training Command at Randolph AFB, Texas. In this capacity, he led a team of Management Analysts overseeing portfolios with 32,000 plus Human Resource requirements across nine states with an estimated value of $2.8 billion. Jay credits his desire to become a corporate trainer, leadership coach, and motivational speaker on soul searching and uncovering his WHY. The WHY, quite simply, is “I have a passion for serving others and helping them achieve their dreams and goals.” In 2014, Jay decided to take his passion for serving and adding value to others to a new level. “I had the opportunity to get certified by Dr. John C. Maxwell, the world’s #1 expert on leadership. I’m now personally trained and mentored by John and members of his inner circle on a recurring weekly basis.

Jay’s experience and expertise is in Leadership, Human Resource Management, and Process Improvement. He’s served as a trainer and speaker for more than 20 years. Jay has an undergraduate degree in Behavior Analysis and Sociology from the University of North Texas, and a graduate degree in Adult Education and Administration from the University of Oklahoma. While on active duty, he also had the privilege of serving as an Associate Professor at Auburn University, Alabama for three years, where he taught a junior level course on Leadership and served as the Commandant of Cadets for the Air Force ROTC program.

As a motivational speaker, Jay has shared the stage with John Maxwell, Paul Martinelli, and Nick Vujicic, speaking to audiences in excess of 2,000 plus. As a trainer and coach, Jay facilitates Mastermind Group studies, workshops, seminars, strategic planning, staff training and development, team building, personality assessments, and consults on Kaizen and 5S. Jay’s current and past clients include San Antonio Retail Merchants Association (SARMA), The Tri-County Chamber of Commerce, The Seguin Rotary Club, Fitness Kinektions, Kung Jung Mu Sul of Schertz; The University of Texas-San Antonio; the Society of American Military Engineers, Patriot Construction, Farmers Insurance – The Jamie Johnson Agency, AGW Properties, and Pro-Vigil to name just a few.
